        EDUCATION
Dick Kelly is a strong advocate for education. He understands the importance of attracting and maintaining education facilities for creating a community that attracts business, professionals and citizens who care about and help sustain a family oriented life style.

Dick Kelly as a member of the Palm Desert City Council supported and voted for the acquisition and infrastructure development of 200 acres for a four year university – the Palm Desert Campus of Cal State San Bernardino.

Dick Kelly promoted and helped build the Child Development Center at Trinity Lutheran Church where Dick has been a member for 31 years.

He always asks the right/tough questions.
He listens to his constituents.
He not only sees the ‘big picture’, but has sound vision.
He performs all his many duties with class.
He has consistently been a champion of education.
You can trust him.
He has a wonderful sense of humor.
He is wise beyond his years.

Palm Desert Campus

Dick Kelly’s vision for the Palm Desert Campus of Cal State San Bernardino was to offer a Bachelor of Science degree for nursing. He saw the importance of training and retaining professional personnel for the Coachella Valley medical facilities. With COD’s Associate of Arts degree in nursing, students are able to continue working at home and complete their Bachelor of Science at the Palm Desert campus.
Dick Kelly supported Palm Desert’s gift to help construct the Palm Desert Science Building where the latest in nurse training is available for Coachella Valley residents.

"Dick Kelly has been a long sitting member of the Palm Desert City Council. During that tenure, he has been the Mayor several times. Dick used his long political experience and leadership to assist in the development of the California State University Campus in Palm Desert. A donation of land by the Palm Desert Redevelopment Agency made the campus a reality. Dick Kelly played an instrumental role in making that donation happen because of his concern about providing higher education to his City. As the campus grew, a need for a Medical Arts building was realized. This building was initially funded with a major financial gift from the City of Palm Desert. Again, using his long gained experience and leadership and a strong desire to support post secondary education, Dick Kelly played a very important role in making the gift possible. The Campus is very appreciative of Dick Kelly for his support in developing the campus "

Palm Desert Scholarships
"It is my distinct honor and pleasure to commend Dick Kelly for his support of Palm Desert High School student-scholars through the Palm Desert Rotary Club Foundation’s scholarship program. As the chairperson of the Foundation’s annual Citizen of the Year event, I have had the pleasure to work closely with Dick Kelly over the years to honor Palm Desert’s most worthy citizens while raising tens of thousands of dollars for the Foundation’s scholarship fund. Dick’s leadership and participation in the Citizen of the Year event has been the difference in making the event such a great success!
As a fellow member and past-president of Palm Desert Rotary Club, Dick Kelly and I share and take to heart Rotary’s motto for over 100 years: “Service Above Self.” Indeed, Dick Kelly personifies this motto in virtually every thing he does, both for our Rotary Club and for the City of Palm Desert. We are fortunate to have had someone of his character and commitment serving our City for over 25 years.
We look forward to working with him for many years in the future!"
